Eagles host district foe Central Catholic
With three consecutive wins, the Vermilion Catholic Screamin’ Eagles head into their district contest versus Central Catholic with extreme confidence.
Both teams are 3-1, and are coming off of district victories. Central Catholic defeated Highland Baptist 48-26, and Vermilion Catholic routed Lafayette Christian Academy 49-7.
VC enters the game ranked No. 6 in the latest Louisiana Sportswriters Association Class 1A poll. The Eagles are also ranked third in the unofficial power rankings for Division IV.
In the game versus LCA, the Eagles were clicking on all cylinders offensively. That was the third consecutive game that quarterback Hunter Frith threw for at least 200 yards. He finished the game with 228 yards passing and three scores, all to Tyler Derouen.
Derouen led the team with 109 yards receiving on five catches. Emile Trahan chipped in 62 yards on four receptions. Derouen is second in the state for receiving yardage with 546 on 24 receptions with five touchdowns.

Central Catholic has a plethora of weapons on offense, but it starts with running back Stefan Guarisco. Coming off of injury, he rushed for 111 yards and three touchdowns against Highland Baptist. Chris Singleton is also a main cog in the running game. He rushed for 127 yards on 14 attempts last week. For the season, Guarisco has a total of 466 yards and 10 touchdowns on 82 carries. He has also hauled in eight passes for 169 yards and two scores, which leads the team.
Quarterback Blake Bryne is the leader of the offense. Last week he went 9-17 for 171 yards with two touchdowns as well as two interceptions. So far this season, Byrne has completed 42 of 89 passes for 591 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Both teams seem to not like each other as this may prove to be an early preview of the district championship.
Central Catholic is on a mission to try and dethrone the reigning kings of the district.
