Eagles get first district test versus LCA

The Vermilion Catholic Screamin' Eagles may be one of the only teams in the state that play two rivalry games back-to-back.
It is just the second season that Lafayette Christian Academy has been a part of the LHSAA, and they have already spawned a rivalry with the Eagles.
As members of the talented district 7-1A, the two teams battle it out at Lafayette Christian tonight at 7 p.m.
Both teams enter the game 2-1, with the Eagles winning two consecutive home games.
“We are excited to get into district play,” said VC offensive coordinator Roch Charpentier. We have teams in this district that have improved this year. We are happy about the level of competiton we will face.”
Vermilion Catholic defeated rival Erath last week 35-30 in a thrilling game that produced more points than last year's game which ended in a 28-19 score. Quarterback Hunter Frith went 23-30 for 277 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles gashed the Bobcats in the rushing game as well.
The team rushed for 136 yards on 23 attempts. Tyler Derouen led the team with 84 yards on 14 carries, and Chris Campbell rushed for 42 yards on 9 carries with two touchdowns.
Derouen also led the team in receiving yards with 111 yards and eight catches. Emile Trahan chipped in with four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown. Campbell had five catches for 40 yards.
The Knights enter the game off of a loss versus Hamilton Christian 26-13. The offense was held to 179 yards of offense. Leading rusher Dylan Hargrave was held to negative yardage on 10 attempts. Dynamic quarterback Regan Miller was contained by an impressive Hamilton Christian defense.
LCA considers VC a rival because of the recent success that the Eagles have garnered, and the Knights believe the only way to be the new kings of the district, is to take the crown from VC.
In the battle between two possible frontrunners for the district title, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top heading into the rest of district play.
