Eagles cruise past Central Catholic

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles squared off against district rivals Lafayette Christian, on Thursday, and Central Catholic on Friday night.
The Eagles were able to come out the victor in both of those games by the combined score of 27-9.
The Eagles started on Thursday night against LCA, and used a big eight run sixth inning to beat LCA by the final score of 16-5.
VC would then use that momentum to propel them into the game against Central Catholic.
Heading into the Friday match-up, Central Catholic was the second ranked team in Class 1A.
That didn’t mean much to the Eagles.
They used a run in the first, three runs in the second and seven runs in the third inning to beat Central Catholic by the final score of 11-4.
“Our guys came out with some fire and energy, and we did a lot of things right tonight,” Eagles Head Coach Steven Adams said. “It has been a long time coming, and we had a little Lady Luck on our side tonight.
“To get up big like was nice, but that was probably the closest 11-4 four game I have ever been in, in my life.”
The Eagles used the big innings to get up on Central Catholic early, but it was the arm of Tyler Derouen that led the Eagles to the winners circle.
Derouen pitched six innings in the ball game, and only gave up two runs, only one earned, on six hits.
He also struck out five Central Catholic batters.
“(Tyler) Derouen is a guy that comes in a fills up the plate with strikes,” Adams said. “He gives up some hits, but he is always throwing strikes, and that helps us win ball games. When we got up big he was able to keep grounded. He did a fantastic job on the mound tonight.”
Derouen also led the Eagles at the plate as well as on the mound.
Derouen was 1-for-1 on the night with an RBI double in the big third inning.
He also was walked three times and scored three runs.
Brennan Gallet also had a big night, going 2-for-2 with two singles, two RBIs and a run scored.
William Noegel and Wes Meaux both went 2-for-3.
Both had two singles and two runs scored.
This win over Central Catholic was big for the Eagles, as it helps them in not only their chances for the district title, but also in the power rankings.
The Eagles are currently ranked fifth, and they just beat the second ranked team in the power rankings.
The Eagles record now stands at 17-9 overall and 6-2 in district play.
The Eagles will return to action on Monday as they travel to take on Gueydan.
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
