Delcambre wins All-District MVP, Coach of the Year
The Delcambre Lady Panthers softball team had a season that they can be proud of.
The Lady Panthers finished the season with a 22-8 record, and were fortunate enough to make it to the quarterfinals of the playoffs in Sulphur.
Because of their hard work and good play, the post season accolades all came flowing in.
The Lady Panthers were able to land 10 players on the district 5-2A All-District first and second teams.
On top of those ten, pitcher Taylor Trahan was named All-District MVP, and head coach Chad Hayes was named Coach of the Year, in his first year as head coach of the Lady Panthers.
“I am very proud of this team,” Hayes said. “They worked their tails off all year long. We fell short of our ultimate goal, but despite that it was a great season because of the great team that I have.”
Trahan was named MVP for her talent in the pitching circle and at the plate.
In the circle, Trahan won 19 games for the Lady Panthers.
To go along with her 19 wins she also had a low earned run average of 1.56. She also struck out 244 batters over the course of the year.
“It is a real honor for her (Trahan),” Hayes said. “She deserves it. She has worked hard all year long, whether it be on trying to get better at pitching, or in the batting cage to make sure she is better at the plate. I thought she deserved it, and apparently all of the other coaches did as well.”
At the plate, Trahan batted .363 on the year, and led the team in home runs with three, and was tied for the lead in RBIs with 33.
Along with Trahan being named MVP of district 5-2A, head coach Chad Hayes was named Coach of the Year in his first season as head coach.
“It felt great to win this award,” Hayes said. “It was coach Suire of Catholic High (New Iberia) that nominated me, and all of the other coaches agreed with him. So, to win this because my peers think I deserve it, makes it that much more special.”
The Lady Panthers will be looking at making another run next softball season as they are only graduating two players from this years team.
“Everyone is excited about the future here,” Hayes said. “As they should be because the future is bright here at Delcambre.”
