Delcambre prepares for the state track meet

The last and final track meet is finally upon Vermilion Parish.
The State track meet is the last track meet of the season, and it is the last chance for the athletes to try and achieve the goal of winning a state championship.
The state track meet spans over the course of three days.
The meet officially begins on Thursday with the Class B and C meets.
Then on Friday the Class 1A and 2A meets will take place, and the entire meet wraps up on Satruday with the Class 3A, 4A and 5A meets.
This year the state meet is being held at the Bernie Moore Stadium at LSU’s campus.
The field events will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m. and the running events will begin at 5 p.m.
Over the course of the week we will highlight all of the participants of the state meet from across the parish.
Today we are going to highlight the Delcambre Panthers.
The first Delcambre participant of the day will be Emily Romero.
Romero qualified in the girls javelin throw, with a throw of 102-10.
She will be competing in the 18th event of the day.
Three events later in event 21, Kody Breaux will be participating in the pole vault competition.
He qualified with a vault of 12-00.
The first running event the Panthers will be a part of is the boys 4x200 meter relay race.
The team of Jordy Russo, Dustin Waguespack, Zach Trahan and Bubba Latiolais qualified with a time of 1:33.45.
Delcambre will have a runner in both the boys and girls 800 meter race.
Event 46 is the girls 800, and Kessler Dooley qualified with a time of 2:34.06.
Two events later John Crittenden with his qualifying time of 2:05.80 will compete.
Dustin Waguespack after resting from the 4x200 meter relay will compete in the boys 400 meter race in event 56.
His qualifying time was 51.59.
In one of the last events of the day, event 70, Dezzi Viator will take his time of 10:43.30, into the 3200 meter race.
His time was the third best qualifying time at the state meet.
Check in tomorrow’s paper for the event times for the 1A portion of the state track meet.
In Friday’s paper we will have all of the 3A event times and state participants.
