Class 3A takes run at state titles

The state track meet is set up as a three day track meet at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge on LSU’s campus.
The Class B and C got underway yesterday, and Classes 1A and 2A are starting today at 1:30 p.m.
Class 3A-5A will begin tomorrow morning with the field events at 10:45.
The track events will begin at 3:30 p.m.
Vermilion Parish is well represented in the Class 3A state track meet.
Between Abbeville, Erath, Kaplan and North Vermilion, Vermilion parish will have 29 athletes in 23 events that will span from the very first Class 3A event to the penultimate Class 3A event.
The very first event of the day is the girls javelin.
Claire Meyers of North Vermilion, Sydney Richardelle of Erath and Kaysie Hardy of Abbeville all qualified with the sixth, fifth and fourth best qualifying throws at their regional meet.
Event number seven is the boys pole vault competition.
North Vemilion’s Kaleb Derouen qualified with a vault of 12-06, and Erath’s Quenton Harrington’s vault of 13-00 at the regional meet qualified him as the fourth best vault heading into the state meet.
Kaplan has their first entry into the state meet in event 14.
Kendra Gums qualified in the girls long jump with a qualifying jump of 16-05.
The boys javelin event is number 18 on the day, and North Vermilion’s Dominic Governale, the only male NV state qualifier, qualified with the second best throw of 181-02.
Event 24 is the girls pole vault competition, and Erath’s Sara Watson qualified with the best vault of 11-00.
Yasmin Cobb of Kaplan, with her throw of 36-11.5 in the shot put, qualified her for the state shot put competition. The girls shot put is the 26th event on Saturday.
Kaplan’s Jalen Bates qualified in the boys discus throw, event 27, with a throw of 140-09. His throw was the second best qualifying throw at state.
Event 29 is the boys long jump competition, and the lone competitor in the event is Kaplan’s Kaylon Rudd. His qualifying jump of 44-02.25 was the third best qualifying heading into the state track meet.
After only competing in the girls high jump during three meets this entire track season, Paige Cutright of Abbeville will be vying for a state title.
She qualified with a high jump of 5-00. The girls high jump competition will be event number 32.
Event 38 is the girls triple jump competition, and both Gums from Kaplan and Erath’s Lindsey Darby qualified.
Gums qualified with a jump of 34-01.25, and Darby qualified with the best qualifying jump of 35-03.25.
The final field event that Vermilion Parish will be apart of is event 41, the girls discus throw.
Abbeville’s Nadasha Valliere will be competing in the event, and she qualified with a throw of 110-01.
The track events will begin promptly at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon, and the first event of the track events will be the girls 4x200 meter relay race.
The Abbeville team consisting of Key’andra Mitchell, Kaysie Hardy, Arrayia Starlard and Katina Perry, qualified with a time of 1:47.79.
Event 57 is the girls 100 meter hurdles race, and Abbeville’s Katina Perry qualified with the second best time of 15.73.
The only Vermilion Parish runner in the girls 100 meter dash, event 63, is Erath’s Caitlin Domingues.
Domingues qualified for the race with a time of 12.68.
Erath also had the only runner from Vermilion Parish in the boys 100 meter dash, event 66.
Corey Cole qualified with a time of 11.11 at the regional track meet.
Arrayia Starlard of Abbeville qualified for the girls 800 meter race with a time of 2:30.81.
The girls 800 meter race is event 69 of the afternoon.
The girls 4x100 meter relay race is event 75 of the state meet, and the Erath relay team consisting of Catherine Domingues, Caitlin Domingues, Ali Bourque and Lindsey Darby qualified with a time of 50.81.
Caitlin Domingues will take a run at her third attempt at a state championship of the day, in the girls 400 meter race, event 81. She qualified with a time of 1:00.54.
Corey Cole of Erath will also be attempting to earn a title in the boys 400 meter race. Cole qualified with a time of 48.48.
The boys 400 meter race is the 87th event of the day.
Event 87 is the girls 300 meter hurdles. Abbeville has two runners in the event.
Katina Perry qualified with a time of 48.01, and Paige Cutright qualified with a time of 48.26.
Kaplan’s last competitor is Jace Harrington in the boys 3200 meter race. He qualified with a time of 10:50.29.
The penultimate Class 3A even of the day is the girls 4x400 meter relay race.
Abbeville qualified with a time of 4:13.07.
Paige Cutright, Arrayia Starlard, Key’andra Mitchell and Katina Perry make up the Abbeville relay team.
The North Vermilion Lady Patriots qualified with the best qualifying time of 4:10.88.
The team of Lunden Graham, Elise Vincent, Morgan Harrington and Miranda Martin will attempt to improve upon their time.
Again the field events are set to begin at 10:45 a.m. Saturday morning, and the track events will begin at 3:30 p.m.
