Baseball... been berra berra good... to me

Opening day for Major League Baseball was just over a week ago now, and in this past week I have remembered how much I love the game of baseball.
Maybe its because I have covered a lot of baseball games here in Vermilion Parish, or maybe because I’m getting sentimental in my “old” age.
I find the older I get the more partial to baseball I am becoming.
Maybe it’s because one of my earliest childhood memories with my dad are at a baseball game.
I remember going to a Shreveport Captains game, at the time they were a single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, when I was four or five years old.
I remember like it was yesterday, me sitting there and eating ice cream out of a miniature batting helmet.
I remember that was one of the first times I took an actual interest in sports.
This week has really made me remember that, and the fact that baseball is one of the best sports on the planet.
Baseball at any level is great to watch.
It is fun to watch little kids play because you get to see them discover their love or disdain for the sport, but we can all agree that there is something special to watching a child discover something for the first time.
Then when they make it to the high school level, it’s fun to watch them play because now they are playing for something.
Whether it be for fun or the chance at taking there talents to the collegiate level.
Speaking of high school baseball, I’m going to take a moment and hype up Vermilion Parish baseball and softball.
There are some really good teams here in the parish and if you are hankering for a good game to go and watch, pick any school in the parish and you will be pleasantly surprised of how much fun you may have at those games.
Anyway all that to say that I have refound my love for the game of baseball.
Whether its because I have been to so many games this years, or because I am just remembering all the great memories the game of baseball has given me.
Either way I suggest that you find a love for the game of baseball.
It is a great sport, and it’s America’s past time.
Plus it is a great way to watch your children grow, and implant memories that will last a lifetime.
At least it was for me.
