Bobcats prepare for De La Salle
The Erath Bobcats enter the 2014 State Playoff tournament on a hot streak.
They have won 13 of their last 15 games, and they will put their hot streak up against the number 22 seeded De La Salle tonight.
The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. Friday night at the Quality Sports Authority fields.
“We are real happy to be hosting a home playoff game,” Erath head coach David Jordan said. “Especially the way our season started. We started a little slow, and had to battle through some rough baseball and injuries.
“It’s funny to think that just about a month ago we were sitting in 28th or 29th spot, and now we are hosting a playoff game. I’m really happy and proud of this team.”
Hosting a home playoff game is starting to be old hat for the Bobcats.
This playoff game marks the fourth straight year that the Bobcats have hosted a first round playoff game.
It is also their fifth straight trip to the playoffs in general.
Before the Bobcats can start to think about anything they have to worry about De La Salle and coach Jordan is fully prepared for a good game.
“They are a well coached team,” Jordan said. “They are young and kind of rebuilding, but that makes them dangerous. We will need to come out and play if we are wanting to advance in the playoffs.”
If the Bobcats are going to advance they are going to need to continue to get some solid play from their players.
Ross Granger is the projected starter for the game tonight.
Granger is sporting at 3-1 record, with a 3.74 earned run average. He also has two saves on the season as well.
Some of the other players that will need to continue their solid play is Jessie Jordan. Jordan has an outstanding .455 batting average on the season, and is easily leading the team in that category.
Senior Alec Toups is batting .350 and has 11 runs scored.
Jace Harrington has also made large contributions to the Erath baseball team.
Harrington is batting .325, and has two home runs on the season. He also leads the team in RBIs with 20.
Along with being a major run producer for the Bobcats he is also stellar on the mound.
Harrington has a record of 6-1, and a crazy low .61 ERA.
Another standout at the plate and on the mound for the Bobcats is Brett Delcambre.
Delcambre has a 5-1 record on the mound and is carrying a 2.74 ERA. To go along with his performance on the mound he is batting .280 with 13 RBIs.
“The talent is here for this to be a really good baseball team,” Jordan said. “These boys work their butts off week in and week out.
“We just have to remember that the game doesn’t change. The name of the game is to pitch quality pitches and have quality at-bats. If we can remember that we will be able to go a long way.”
The game against De La Salle is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. at the QSA fields Friday night.
