Bats stay hot for the 29’ers

With the regular season winding down, the Gulf Coast Bank Abbeville 29’ers finished off the season the best way they knew how, by scoring lots of runs.
The 29’ers hosted a make up game against Arch Angel, and the bats for the third straight game scored 10 plus runs to defeat Arch Angel by the final score of 15-1 in only four innings.
“One thing I have been preaching to the boys all season long is that it doesn’t matter who your opponet is or what the score on the scoreboard is, you have to play your best ball from first pitch to last pitch,” 29’ers head coach Darin Desormeaux said. “I saw the team do that tonight. We came out and in four innings we scored 15 runs, I think any coach would take that, and I didn’t see the drop off. I was glad to see the boys stayed on top of their game.”
The 29’ers jumped out to an early lead on Arch Angel.
Drake Broussard led things off with a triple, and that was followed by a Wes Meaux walk.
Then Donald Comeaux stepped up to the plate and had a 2 RBI double.
Comeaux would later score on a throwing error which resulted in Taylor Abshire reaching first base safely.
Ty Desormeaux would draw a walk, and Ryan Meaux would hit a single to left field to load the bases.
Seth Patin would then follow suit with a two RBI single to left.
Gabe Hebert would then follow with an RBI single to give the 29’ers six runs scored in the bottom of the first inning on six base hits.
The 29’ers wouldn’t back down, and kept the pedal to the metal.
In the bottom of the second inning the 29’ers scored six more runs in a very similar fashion to the six runs scored in the bottom of the first.
This gave the 29’ers a 12-1 lead, but for good measure they would score three more runs in the bottom of the third inning to put the game at the final score of 15-1.
Wes Meaux pitched a solid game for the 29’ers .
Meaux pitched all five innings for the 29’ers, and in his time on the mound he only allowed one run on two hits.
Meaux also managed to strike out eight batters in his five innings on the mound.
At the plate Donald Comeaux led the way by going 2-for-2 with a double and a single.
He also drew a walk, scored three runs and had two RBIs.
Ty Desormeaux also had a solid game at the plate, and his stat line look similar to Comeaux’s.
Desormeaux was 2-for-2 with two doubles and a walk.
He also scored three runs and had a couple RBIs.
Next time the team takes the field it will be in the regional tournament which will be held in New Orleans on July 19.
Head coach Darin Desormeaux and the entire Abbeville 29’ers would like to thank American Legion post 29 and Gulf Coast Bank for making it possible for them to be able to play baseball this summer.
