Athlete of the Year
The 2014 Corey Mellebeck Female Athlete of the Year award is awarded to Vermilion Catholic’s Katie Frith.
“I didn’t even know I was in line for the award,” Frith said. “It is such an honor to win something like this. It feels as though all of the hard work that I have done this year is being recognized. It’s nice to see your hard work get rewarded.”
Frith was named to the first team All-State, All-Parish, All-District teams in girls basetball.
On top of being named to all those teams, she was also the MVP of the All-Parish team.
She was also named a top performer at the Parish Tournament, and the Yuletide Tournament at the beginning of the basketball season.
Frith was also a member of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s girls basketball All-Star game.
“Katie (Frith) has been a joy to coach, and has just been a great player over the past four years,” VC’s girls basketball coach Kim Guidry said. “We are going to miss her presence on the court and in the locker room. The girls that are staying have some big shoes to fill.”
Along with her prowess on the basketball court, Frith was named to the All-District team, and the All-Parish team in softball.
Frith was a senior at VC and is now planning on attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the fall.
Frith is not only good on the basketball court and on the softball diamond, but she is also a star in the class room.
She was named as a member of the All-Academic teams in both basketball and softball with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
“I am going to be sad to leave VC,” Frith said. “I have had so much fun, and there are so many memories here. It is nice to know I can always come home if I need to.”
