Area teams move up in power ratings

With four games left to play in the high school football season, many local teams hold playoff positions, with some getting very high ratings by the LHSAA.
In Class 3A, the Kaplan Pirates hold the no. 10 spot after winning four consecutive games, most recently against North Vermilion. If the playoffs were to begin today, the Erath Bobcats would slip into 32nd and final spot, after their three straight victories.
The Bobcats face Notre Dame on Friday.
After a loss to district rival Kaplan, the North Vermilion Patriots dropped five spots to no. 37. Rounding out the final 3A team in the area, the Abbeville Wildcats are number 46 in the rankings, but a win this week could catapult them up the ranks.
In class 2A, the Delcambre Panthers hold firmly in the number 22 spot after their three-game win streak. A win against No. 12 Loreauville would help the surging Panthers tremendously.
The struggling Gueydan Bears cling to the bottom of the Class 1A rankings after a winless start to their 2014 regular season.
In Division IV of the select school bracket, the Vermilion Catholic Eagles are ranked no. 3, with their 5-1 record. The Eagles are just behind Madison Prep and Central Catholic for the top spot.
The rankings take record into consideration, as well as each team’s strength of schedule. The rankings are unofficial until each team plays their final game of the season.
