Annual Snooks Relays off and running

The Snooks Relays are one of the oldest track meets in not only Vermilion Parish, but in the entire state.

It is also one of the most prestigious meets to be a part of, and this year 15 teams, including Abbeville, Delcambre, Erath, Kaplin, North Vermilion and Vermilion Catholic, are making the trip to Erath to compete in the Snooks Relays.

“It is a great atmosphere every year at the Snooks Relays,” Erath Head Coach Kerry Richard said. “The kids that come always love to come and compete in this event. The energy and the crowd is always great at the Snooks Relays.”

The field events at the Snook Relays will begin at 4 p.m.

Then at 5:45 p.m. the annual court presentation will begin.

The court is open to all senior girls at Erath that have a, 3.5 grade point average.

This year the court is made up of two Lady Bobcats track athletes, Catherin Domingues and Caitlin Domingues .

Lena Issa will join the Domingues sisters as the third and final member of the court.

The track events will take place after the court presentation.

“This event is always fun,” Richard said. “You get to see some of the area’s best track athletes. It’s always nice to see some of the best perform.”

The Snooks Relays are always a fun event that is a community effort to put on.

“Getting everything ready is always a lot of work, but worth it,” Richard said. “It takes the entire community to pull together to make sure these things run as smoothly as they can.”

The Snooks Relay will begin at 4 p.m. with the court presentation taking place at 5:45 p.m., and following the court presentation, the track events will begin.
