VC’s Frith brings home All-Parish MVP

Senior Katie Frith of Vermilion Catholic has a lot of accolades on her basketball resume.
She has been apart of a state championship team and several All-State, All-District and All-Parish Teams. Along with all of those she was a member of the annual LHSAA East-West All-Star game.
Now she can add girls All-Parish MVP to that list of accolades.
“I’m really excited to be named Parish MVP,” Frith said. “It is such an honor, but I couldn’t have done it with out my teammates. They deserve this just as much.”
Always a team player is one of the many things that makes Frith great on and off the court.
“She gives you 110 percent all the time,” VC Head Coach Kim Guidry said. “She is a great team leader. She leads through example because she plays so hard on both ends of the court. Her hard work is a tribute to who she is as a person.”
Frith was a member of the VC Eagles for four season and during her time she has made a trip to the quarterfinals three years in row, the top 28 twice and has a state championship ring in her jewelry box.
“I have had a lot of fun here at VC,” Frith said. “I’m just going to miss everything. I’ll miss playing the games. The thing I will miss most though is my teammates. I loved playing with those girls, and it is going to be hard to leave them and everything else behind.”
Coach Guidry also knows how difficult it is going to be to replace someone as special as Frith.
“Her shoes are going to be hard to fill,” Guidry said. “It is just how life goes though. We are thankful and blessed to have someone like Katie be apart of our team for four years, but eventually you know they have to go. It’s sad sometimes, but you appreciate what they did. You just have to cherish the time you have with them.”
Frith’s on the court accolades aren’t the only things that make her great.
She was also named to the All-Academic team by maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
She also plans on attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to eventually become a pharmacist one day.
“She is a smart caring individual person,” Guidry said. “She puts others ahead of herself, and she will do anything for her teammates. Along with that she plays hurt, she wants to be on the floor as much as she possibly can. She is just one of those kids that makes your job as a coach and a teacher so much easier because she takes her time in the class and on the court very serious.”
Her play on the court is what made her the 2014 All-Parish Girls MVP, but it’s who she is off the court that makes her special.
