Abbeville and Erath lose in first round

Avoyelles.......62
Abbeville.......52

The Abbeville Lady Wildcats season has unfortunately come to an end as they lost Thursday night to Avoyelles by the final score 62-52.

“They (Avoyelles) came out and was just on fire,” Lady Wildcats Dean Dronet said. “They (Avoyelles) hit six three pointers in the first quarter, and it took us a little bit to get settled down.

“I’m proud of the way the girls fought back and never gave up. I’m just really proud of the way that they played, but I have to give a lot of credit to Avoyelles. They are a good basketball team.”

The Lady Wildcats fell into a large 13 point deficit at the end of the first quarter.

Being down 26-13, coupled with the Lady Wildcats starting point guard Arrayia Starlard injuring her ankle, the Lady Wildcats were not able to overcome the whole they found themselves in.

At one point in the game, the Lady Wildcats were down as many as 20 points, but were able to close the deficit to the final 62-52.

Leading the way in scoring for the Lady Wildcats was Barbara Bryant who scored a team high 16 points.

Bianca Levy was only one point behind Bryant, as she was able to score 15 points.

Christina Hackshaw was also able to score in the double digits as she netted 10 points.

Jacqueline Braxton and Evelyn Briggs rounded out the scoring for the Lady Wildcats with nine and two points respectively.

The injury bug really plagued the Lady Wildcats all season long.

Before the playoff game the Lady Wildcats had already lost two players due to injuries and the rest of the team was playing hurt.

Despite a first round exit and being so injury plagued, coach Dronet still sees this season as a successful season.

“Looking back on the season as a whole, it was a successful season,” Dronet said. “Anytime you can have a winning record and make the playoffs, it should be considered a successful season. We didn’t go as far as we hoped, but we played
well all season long, all things considered. I’m really proud of the way the girls played all season long.”

University
Lab....................65
Erath................31

The Erath Lady Bobcats season ended quite abruptly as they lost to University Lab by the final score of 65-31.

University Lab used the three ball to help win the game over the Lady Bobcats.

University Lab made seven three pointers on the night.

University Lab found themselves up 17-5 at the end of the first quarter, and blew the game wide open in the second.

When the whistle sounded for halftime, the Lady Bobcats found themselves 43-13.

Alexis Harrington led the Lady Bobcats in scoring with 10 points.
