Verna M. Duhon

Funeral services will be held at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church for Verna M. Mouton Duhon, 84, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, November 10, 2014 after battling heart problems for many years.
Reverend O. Joseph Breaux, Pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church will be Celebrant of the Mass.
Burial will take place in St. Alphonsus Mausoleum.
Miss Verna, as she was known, was born and raised in Kaplan, LA. She grew up as the third daughter of a grocery store owner in Kaplan, LA. She graduated from Kaplan High School and started working in the accounting field. She worked for an insurance company in Kaplan, B. F Trappeys in Lafayette, and Maurice Branch of Bank of Abbeville and Trust Company. She also did babysitting in her home and worked at Maurice City Hall for several years. She raised 3 sons and 1 daughter. She loved to play bingo, travel to casinos, enjoyed cooking, and planting vegetable and flower gardens. She was a member of the St. Alphonsus Ladies Altar Society of Maurice for many years.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter, Clarence J. Duhon and wife Myra, Steven M. Duhon, Wayne D. Duhon and wife Josette, Peggy Duhon Henderson and husband Lester, four grandchildren, Brady S. Duhon, Lindsey R. Duhon Mouisset, Kathy Lynn Duhon Kibbe, Nicole Duhon Arabie, and Tia Duhon, and three great-grandchildren Rhett Kibbe, Kaitlyn Kibbe, and Paige Duhon, her sister Wilda “Bee” Simon and her husband Rodney J. Simon, and her brother J. Minus Mouton and his wife Jane. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Curley “Curly” James Duhon whom she was married to for 60 years until he passed away in 2011, her parents Fernand Mouton and Ella Menard Mouton, and one sister Alley Mae Mouton Holloway.
Pallbearers will be Brady S. Duhon, Lester W. Henderson, Travis Mouisset, Brian P. Kibbe, Edward Simon, & Glenn Simon.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Maurice on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will continue Wednesday from 8:00 am to time of services. A rosary will be recited by members of the St. Alphonsus Ladies Altar Society on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
