Verdie Richard

GUEYDAN - Verdie Richard was called from this life on April 12, 2014, at the age of 82, while surrounded by her family. Verdie was born in Gueydan, to the late Ivy Thibodeaux and the late Pauline Conner on February 3, 1932. Verdie was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She also loved painting and working in yard.
Verdie is survived by two sons, Ivy Richard and his wife Hope of Gueydan, and Nelson Kent Richard and his wife Cindy of Kaplan and one sister, Rena Menard of Morse. She is also survived by her three beautiful grandchildren; Steven Wayne Richard, Libby Sonnier and Jason Richard; seven great grandchildren, Danielle, Lauren, Halley, Meah, Kylie, Kohen, and Zoe; and one great great granddaughter; Maylee.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ivy and Pauline Thibodeaux. Her husband Joyson Richard. One brother, Paul Thibodeaux and a great grandson, Adam Richard.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gueydan on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Father Clint Trahan officiating. Burial was held in the Gueydan Cemetery under the direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home. Visitations were held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Gueydan, on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. A Rosary was recited by Bonnie Sarver at 7 p.m. on Sunday and at 10:15 a.m. on Monday by the Catholic Daughters of America. Visitation resumed on Monday at 8 a.m. until the time of her Service at 2 p.m.
Carrying Verdie to her final resting place was; Steven Richard, Jason Richard, Johnny Richard, Michael Richard, Wade Cormier, and Anthony Sonnier. Honorary Pallbearers were Kohen Mouton and Adam Zaunbrecher.
