Sis. Irma Wright Simpson

Irma Wright Simpson was born December 27, 1929 to the late Joseph and Ida Brookshire Wright. She departed this life on Aug 18, 2015. Irma was the youngest of fifteen children.
She was baptized at the early age at Pleasant Green Baptist Church of Abbeville, Louisiana.
Irma attended Elementary, Junior High and Senior High School in the Vermilion Parish School System, along with her brothers and sisters.
She met and married the late Garland Simpson and moved to Eunice, LA where they resided for a number of years. In 1961 they relocated to Pacoima, CA. Irma was the mother of three children, Stanley, Cheryl and Garland Jr.
Being raised in a Christian home, her father always stressed the fact that wherever you live, find yourself a church home. With that in mind she united with the Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church, where she attended church and Sunday school faithfully until her health failed. If that corner seat on her favorite bench was empty you would know that Sis. Simpson wasn’t there that Sunday.
She loved to cook and her family loved to stop by and eat. If she knew you were coming by, a feast was always prepared, which included fried chicken, a pineapple upside down cake or dump cake. Oh! The pecan candy that was often eaten before the meal; there were also containers prepared for you to take home. No one yet perfected her candy recipe, mainly because she didn’t stir it for an hour like everyone else does. Some of us immediately made it to the refrigerator, when we walked in because we knew she always had devil eggs in it.
She loved going back to Abbeville to visit family and attend the family reunions.
Irma was a faithful homemaker, mother, loving wife, grandmother and great helper to those who needed her. She later decided to branch out and become employed outside of the home. She chose to work for the San Fernando Electric Company for a number of years.
Irma leaves to cherish her memory; one daughter, Cheryl Rucker (Dwight) of Colorado, six grandchildren; Nicole, Dwight Jr., Chanetta, Stanley Jr., Kenny and Kelsey; nine great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Sis. Viola Cain Wright; and one daughter in-law, Linda Wright and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Sr.; two sons, Stanley and Garland Jr., her mother, father, fourteen sisters and brothers. These were Effie, Beulah, Ida Belle, Earline, Ross, Jessie, William, Willard, Woodrow, Arthur, Hyman, Oliver, Baby Boy and Joseph III (Junior).
Home Going Service for Sis. Irma Wright Simpson will be held on Saturday, Aug 29, 2015 at 11:00 at Pleasant Green Baptist Church, Abbeville, Louisiana. Internment Old Pleasant Green Cemetery.
