Shirley “Yvonne” Creasey Lege

March 4, 1931 ~ September 16, 2014

ABBEVILLE—A memorial service for Yvonne Creasey Lege, 83, of Abbeville will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014, 12:00 noon at the Vincent Funeral Home. The family will welcome friends and loved ones on Saturday for visitation 10 am until noon at the funeral home. Interment will be private and take place at St. Paul cemetery at a later date.
Yvonne was born March 4, 1931, in Waco, Texas to the late Frank D. Creasey Sr. and Veloy H. Sutton, and died peacefully on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at her residence in Abbeville surrounded by family and friends.
After graduating with honors from Overton High School at 15, Yvonne joined a long list of Creasey kin and attended the family’s Alma Mater - Baylor University. After receiving a degree in Business Administration in 1950, she followed in her parents’ footsteps and became a teacher. She began her career in Guam, and continued it in several Texas and Louisiana cities. She retired in 1994 after 35 years as an educator. During her years at Kaplan High, she enjoyed coaching groups of students to compete and win at Future Business Leaders of America conferences.
Yvonne made many friends and had good times as a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Unable to sit idle for long, she went back to work part time. She managed financial and personnel records for a local business firm for several years before moving on to a less structured and more fun lifestyle.
Surrounded by avid golfers, though not a player herself, she looked forward to local tournament activities as well as the chance to cheer for her favorite players, Donald and Melanie Lege, on trips to distant courses with long time golfing friends.
During her lifetime, she found time to marry and raise four children, a grandchild or two and at least eight dogs. The puppies were all different breeds, all had distinctly different personalities, but as the nest emptied, they became her babies. Yvonne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and wonderful teacher. She enjoyed reading books, working crossword puzzles, dancing, and socializing with friends and family, she also had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 53 years, Donald L. Lege; a step-mother, Dorothy R. Creasey; a brother, Frank D. Creasey Jr.; a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Ronald Suttle; a son, Stephen S.
