Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Abbeville, LA Visitation is from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. and service to start promptly at 11:00 a.m.; the Honorable Bishop Raymond Captville, officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery, Abbeville, LA.
Pastor Ronell Cheatham was born to Lionell and Rozena Levine Cheatham on September 3, 1956 in Abbeville, La. He was the only child to their union. Upon the passing of his father, Pastor Cheatham, was then raised by his Mother and Grandmother, Theresa Levine. He was a Nurses’ Aide until his illness. He was also an Anointed Man of God. He accepted Christ as His Savior at a very young age. He was called to preach at the very young age of 16. Pastor Cheatham loved doing the Work of the Lord. He was a self-taught musician and singer.
He was the Pastor of Star Temple Baptist Church in New Iberia, LA; leading and ministering to His congregation for 27 years. Pastor Cheatham knew no denomination; his work was for the souls. He was active in the 6th District Baptist Association, The Free Will Baptist Association, and the Church of God in Christ. He held leadership post in each of the Churches. He was well known as a humble Servant of God who could preach and sing like no other.
Survivors include his wife of 25 ½ years, Jane Cheatham of Jennings, LA; two sons, Micah(Kassie Breaux) Cheatham and Walter Ray(Lauren Richard) Leopold Sr. of Jennings, LA; grandchildren, MacKenzie Leopold and Walter Ray(baby Ray) Leopold Jr.; two brothers in law, Terry(Janice) Leopold Sr. of Kaplan, LA, and Corey(Symmignon) Leopold of Covington, GA; two sister in laws, Lydia and Lisa Leopold of Lake Charles, LA; two uncles, Herbert(Fredia) Levine Jr. of Abbeville, LA, and Louis(Lillian) Levine of Dallas, TX; one aunt, Maudry Levine(godmother) of Killen, TX; and godchild, Kayne Stewart, and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; Herbert Sr. and Theresa Levine; maternal grandmother, Ivory Laws; father and mother in law, Walter and Betty Leopold, aunts, uncles and other relatives.
The family of Pastor Cheatham would like to thank everyone that sent their condolences in their time of bereavement. We pray that God shower down his blessing on each and every one of you.
