Louisa (Lucien) Leonard-Mayers
December 31, 1984 ~ March 4, 2014
Louisa “Weezy” (more recently known as Lucien “Luc”) Jonathan Mathé Leonard-Mayers died at his home in St. Cloud, Minnesota, in the early hours on Tuesday, March 4th.
Luc was a beloved child who roamed this world looking for a place to hang his hats (at least 25 of them). His family and friends loved Luc’s caustic wit, challenging questions, fertile imagination, and indomitable determination to seek the raw goodness of this world. While we grieve his passing, we celebrate the ways Luc’s life inspires us to confront the challenges of a world that is bent on putting us into slots, especially when it comes to gender identity. Luc began to speak of his self-understanding to his loved ones during the past 15 months and was on his way to creating a body that matched his deepest self.
Luc was cremated on Friday, March 7th. A Celebration of Luc’s Life will be held in St. Cloud on Sunday, May 25, Memorial Day weekend, a time of the year that Luc loved.
Luc is survived by his mother Anne Leonard, father Ozzie Mayers (Stephen Fuller) of St. Cloud, MN; sister Mariana Leonard-Mayers of Minneapolis, MN; his aunts Virginia Leonard Hurwitz (Robert Hurwitz) of Eugene, OR.; Judy Mayers Broussard of Abbeville, LA.; uncle Terry Mayers (Aunt Brant Broom) of New Orleans; much loved cousins and several special children. Luc is also survived by his beloved Weimaraner Neko.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Dulis and Annie Haydell Mayers and Mr. and Mrs. George and Mary Ellen Motty Leonard of Abbeville.
