“It is with great sadness that my friend and colleague Councilman Kevin Guidry passed away after brief illness,” said Mayor Kirk Champagne. “It is all together fitting and proper that we never forget the service and sacrifice of Councilman Guidry to our city as a tireless public servant.
“I don’t think there is anyone else who loved being a councilman as much as Kevin did. He took his commitment to his constituents very seriously and poured his heart and soul into his service.
“Not only did the city lose a great public servant, but I lost a very good friend. My heart goes out to his wife, Melissa, his son and daughter-in-law, and two granchildren.
Guidry’s seat will be filled by his wife till a special election can held in November 2016. At that time, she will seek the position her husband has held for the past 10 years.
