Protective wall finally coming to Erath schools

ERATH - The landscape at Erath High School and Erath Middle School is about to change over the next year.
Construction of a new protective flood wall is about to get underway at Erath High School and Erath Middle School.
Already, the process has begun with flags staked out around the schools. There are pink flags (showing where the wall will be) and blue flags showing where the water lines are located.
The wall will be about five feet high and similar to the one built at Dozier Elementary in Erath.
The wall will hug the buildings at the middle school and the high schools.
In front of the middle school, the wall will pass inside the side walk by the office. It will go around the butler buildings behind the middle school and then in the back of the buildings at the high school.
The wall will pass behind the high school gym and then where the oak trees are near Bobcat Alley. It will be placed in front of the high school near the sidewalk.
The process to build the wall will continue through next school year.
The total cost of the project is $3.5 million. FEMA is paying for 75 percent of the project and the school board is having to pay 25 percent.
The school board’s share will be $840,000
