Like the price of oil, Erath Lady Bobcats falling in power point rankings
ERATH - The Erath Lady Bobcats are falling in the power point standings like the price of oil is falling worldwide.
At one time in the season, the Lady Bobcats sat pretty at No. 6 in the LHSAA Class 3A power point rankings. About the same time, the price of oil was $50 a barrel.
Today, Erath is No. 12 and praying to remain in the top 16 by the time the season ends. The price of oil is $32 a barrel with no end in sight as to when the price will stop dropping.
Most teams fall in power point rankings after a loss. Erath continues to win but yet it falls.
Erath head coach Andrea Bernard has been watching her team drop like the price of oil. She is not too happy with it but there is nothing she can do.
“I am hoping we stay above No. 16,” said Bernard. “Our goal at the beginning of the season was to play a home game in the playoffs. All we can do is win the next game.”
There are 32 teams selected to make the playoffs and the top 16 get a first round home game.
Erath won two district games last week and fell three notches this week. Next week they are expected to fall again despite winning two more district games.
“We were expecting to drop (this week) but I did not think we would drop to No. 12,” she said.
Everyone has their own explanation as to why the price of oil continues to fall each week. It is easy to figure out why Erath is dropping.
The big reason is because of the teams in the district. There are seven teams in District 8 3-A. Only Erath (17-4) and E.D. White (17-1) have a winning record.
The other five teams all have losing records. Berwick’s overall record is 1-11.
While Erath is able to beat these teams, the Lady Bobcats do not pick up enough power points to move up the standings. They fall, instead.
Bernard said one thing Erath can not do is lose to a district team that has a losing record. If Erath falls in the power point standings when it wins, they would drop even more if it loses.
Next up for Erath are Patterson (7-5) on Friday, Kaplan on Tuesday (3-12) and then the big one on Jan. 26. E.D. White (17-1), which is No. 3, visits Erath.
Everyone in Louisiana is hoping the price of oil levels off and stops falling. The Erath Lady Bobcats are hoping for the same in the power point standings.
Erath girls beat Franklin
The Lady Bobcats knocked off Franklin 57-33 on the road.
Three Erath players scored in double digits.
Alexis Lege led with 15, while Monette Bolden had 14 and Gabby Harrington chipped in 10.
Anne Marie Frederick and Olivia Blanchard both made 3 points. Logan Goutterrez made two 3-pointers and finished with six points. Reanne Walsh had two points.
Boys fall to Hornets
The Erath Bobcats learned that the Franklin Hornets are fast in Erath’s 77-54 district loss on Tuesday.
At halftime, Franklin led 45-21.
