North Vermilion ends three-game skid with 38-14 win over Franklin

LEROY — Snapping a three-game losing skid and picking up a district win, the North Vermilion Patriots came away with a big win over the Franklin Hornets on Friday night.
The 38-14 victory puts the Patriots at 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in district play.
The win comes at a time when the Patriots really need the morale boost, according to head coach Richard Prejean.
“We needed a win in a bad way,” he explained. “Anytime you pick up a win after losing three games, it’s huge.”
The game started out strong for the Patriots, who opened the game with an onside kick that Brennon Segrera recovered. Three runs from running back Dylan Dent put North Vermilion on the 17-yard line, and quarterback Dade Dieterich took a single snap and ran it in the rest of the way for the Patriots’ first touchdown of the night, making it 6-0 in the Patriots’ favor.
Segrera would pop up with another key play on Franklin’s opening drive. After the Hornets drove it down the field a ways, Segrera recovered a fumble that gave North Vermilion the ball on their own 35.
Dieterich landed a pass with Tyler Galley for 62 yards before running in another touchdown for three yards, extending the lead to 12-0.
Segrera would get a big sack on Franklin’s quarterback in the next series, and Connor Dupuy would get an interception on the very next play, running the ball all the way down to Franklin’s 3-yard line. Dent needed one play to get the ball into the end zone, giving the Patriots a 19-0 lead.
Defensive back Ryan Broussard would get the next turnover for North Vermilion, intercepting a pass and running it in for the last touchdown of the first half. The Patriots would head to the locker room with a 25-0 lead.
Dieterich and Dent would each get another touchdown in the second half, and Franklin would get some points on the board later in the game, though not enough to turn their fortunes around.
Overall, Dieterich went 5-for-13 in the passing game for 105 yards, but giving up two interceptions and a fumble. Dent led the rushing game with 14 carries for 72 yards and two touchdowns. Dietrich picked up 54 yards in seven carries and punched in three touchdowns.
Galley had the most receiving yards, 62 picked up in a single pass. Dupuy got 27 yards with three catches and Ryan Thompson got 16 yards in one catch.
The Patriots travel to face E.D. White next week to continue district play.
