Avoyelles prisoner escapes, found in Abbeville

This past Saturday, the Abbeville Police Department was notified by Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office that an inmate had escaped from Avoyelles Parish Jail while on work release during the early morning hours of July 11, 2015.
The inmate was identified as Jeremy Fontenot (44 years old).
Fontenot has connections with Abbeville and authorities with Avoyelles Parish believed Fontenot was heading back to Abbeville.
Through investigative measures, Abbeville Police was able to obtain a location on Fontenot. Police located Fontenot walking west on Seventh Street around S. St. Charles Street.
When Fontenot noticed police he began to flee on foot. Fontenot was apprehended without incident on Hildare Street, near South State Street.
Fontenot was serving three years for forgery. Fontenot is being held without bond until extradition back to Avoyelles Parish.
Fontenot is facing charges of simple escape which if convicted can add two to five years of jail time.
