Elderly woman drives car into front door of DMV office in Abbeville

No one was injured Friday morning when a vehicle drove into the door of the Department of Motor Vehicles in Abbeville.
An elderly lady, driving a Mercury Marquis, drove up to the front entrance and instead of stopping, went forward through the front door.
Her car came to a stop in the lobby.
The great news is that there was no one waiting in the lobby at the time of the accident.
The car just missed hitting a motor vehicle employee who was at her desk and saw the car coming her way.
The employee jumped out of the way as the car approached.
The vehicle came to a stop before her desk. If there had been a person sitting in the seat in front of her desk, the person would have gotten run over.
The driver was not injured in the accident. Acadian Ambulance medics walked her outside for an examination.
Because of the accident, the DMV was expected to close for the rest of Friday afternoon.
It is unknown if the office will be open Monday.
