NV Lady Patriots take care of Church Point
LEROY- The North Vermilion Lady Patriots advanced to the second round of the Class 3A softball playoffs after a 6-2 win at home against Church Point Tuesday.
North Vermilion (23-5) scored three runs in the first and two in the second to jump out to an early 5-0 lead and Church Point (10-14) committed seven errors to help the Lady Patriots continue their championship quest.
However, Church Point left-handed pitcher Olivia Daigle kept the Lady Patriots on their toes with her style of pitching.
“We faced a left-hander for the first time this season,” said North Vermilion head coach Joy LeBlanc. “She did a great job of changing speeds and keeping our hitters off balance. I was pleased with the way our hitters competed at the plate and we were able to square up on a couple.”
After Elise Vincent singled to open the bottom half of the first inning for the Lady Patriots, Adele Vincent reached base on an error and one batter later, Demi Boudreaux drove in the twins on a line drive to center field to put North Vermilion ahead 2-0.
Morgan Harrington earned an RBI single to center field later in the inning.
The Lady Bears committed three errors in the bottom part of the second, which aided the Lady Patriots in scoring two runs.
Church Point scored on an error in the third to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Shelby Breaux tacked on another run for the Lady Patriots with a single that brought in Harrington.
The Lady Bears scored their final run in the seventh inning on a fielder’s choice after Talia Jones grounded out to first base.
Vincent went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Boudreaux, Breaux and Harrington each picked up an RBI.
Lady Patriots’ pitcher Hannah Vidallier allowed six hits without an earned run with one strikeout.
Church Point’s Daigle allowed 10 hits and three earned runs.
The Lady Patriots will have a home game against Jewel Sumner in the second round.
