Accused Abbeville rapist kills himself before trial
A 29-year-old aggravated rape case is now closed after the accused was found dead in his house by his wife, Wednesday morning.
In 2011, David Dore of Houma was arrested and charged with the aggravated rape of a 30-year-old Abbeville woman. The rape allegedly occurred in 1986 in Abbeville.
Back in 1986, DNA samples were taken and placed into the computer but no DNA match was found and the case went unsolved until 2011.
In 2011, Dore committed a crime in the Houma area and his DNA was entered into the DNA computer and it matched a DNA sample taken in 1986. After further investigation by the Abbeville Police Department, along with getting another DNA sample from Dore, it was determined that Dore’s DNA matched the DNA found in 1986.
He was arrested in 2011 and charged with aggravated rape and his bond was set at $200,000.
The case was set to go to trial this week in the Vermilion Parish courthouse. Dore appeared in court with his attorney Burton Guidry of Abbeville.
The two appeared before a judge, along with J.N. Prather, who is the executive assistant district attorney, who was representing the state.
The victim, who is now in her 60s, was also in the courthouse Monday.
The case was set for trial on Tuesday. Dore never showed.
All day Tuesday and early Wednesday morning, law enforcement agents throughout the state were in search of Dore. They thought he had fled before the trial.
Wednesday at around 10:30 a.m. Guidry received a phone call from Dore’s wife letting him know Dore killed himself.
Prather, after confirming it was Dore who was found, planned to call the victim to inform her about the alleged suicide.
