Vermilion Parish has 6th best graduation rate

Vermilion Parish School District has the sixth ranked four-year high school graduation rate in the state, based on the numbers released by the Louisiana Department of Education.
Vermilion Parish graduates 89.4 of its students, which is an increase of .4 students from a year ago. It’s the 10th year in a row graduation rates have increased in Vermilion Parish.
“We take great pride in our commitment to a quality public education in classrooms across the parish to prepare our students for their future careers,” said Vermilion Parish Superintendent Jerome Puyau.  “It takes the efforts of the student, parents, staff, teachers, administrators and the community to help all students receive a diploma on graduation night.  Together we have worked hard to make graduation night a reality for our seniors.”  
Desoto Parish ranked number one in the state at 94.5 percent, followed by Beauregard Parish at 93.2 percent
Vermilion’s 89.4 percent is higher than the state average of 74.6 percent.
No school district in Acadiana is close to Vermilion Parish.
Only Acadia Parish and St. Mary  Parish break the 80 percent mark  at 85.1 percent and 81 percent, respectively.
Iberia Parish and Lafayette Parish are at  70 percent.
   In the  class of 2014, nearly 1,600 more students graduated than did in the class of 2013 and nearly 3,440 more students than in 2011.
State Superintendent John White said,      “This increase in the number of students graduating from high school in four years is a great sign  for our state and a true testament to the hard work and devotion teachers, principals, and families across Louisiana. The increases realized  by our districts and schools are more evidence our state cannot afford to go backwards.”
