Abbeville kids are '#KTKB'

A group of parents decided instead of  letting their children sit around the house and do nothing, they want to show them there is a world out there to see.

Clent Briggs, Josh Boudreaux and a group of parents created a new youth group called #KTKB.  The four letters stand for “Keep the Kids Busy.”

The goal of the group is to  visit places throughout Vermilion Parish as a way to educate the youths from Abbeville.

Recently, some children became CPR certified after taking a CPR Class at Comeaux Park in Abbeville.

This past Saturday, around 40 children, ages 4 to 13, met at Magdalen Square and walked over to the Abbeville Main Fire Station for a tour.

In the next couple of weeks, the group is going to the Louisiana National Guard Armory in Abbeville for a tour.

There are future plans to possibly tour the War Museum at the Abbeville Airport and possibly the Abbeville Police Station.

“I wanted to figure out a way to keep kids busy,” said Briggs,  “We have kids from the age of  four to high school. We want to show them a possible avenue they can take in life. By   showing them the fire station, they may want to grow up and be a fireman.”

Boudreaux added, “It felt good to see them get excited about things they saw.  We know we can’t influence everyone, but if it can help a handful, then it was worth it.”

Boudreaux and Briggs would like to thank many of the parents who brought their children to the fire station.  They listed a group of parents:  Jillian Briggs, Destiny Milton. Renee Readom. Perilla Landry, Tasha Sovoy, LeAndrean Boudreaux.  Victoria Briggs, Jerri Livings, Dominique Rideaux, India Dyson and Angelle Briggs.

“And thanks to Stine Lumber and Fresh Urban Wear for the donations,” they added.
