Patriots win fourth straight shutout Bears 7-0
The North Vermilion Patriots baseball team won its fourth straight game with a 7-0 win at home Friday afternoon against the Church Point Bears.
North Vermilion (10-3) had a big fourth inning and were led by a complete game 10-strikeout performance by Seth Patin.
“He (Patin) was great, he’s been throwing great all year,” said Patriots’ head coach Jeremy Trahan. “This is actually the first win he’s gotten because we haven’t scored any runs whenever he’s pitching. It was good to get some runs behind him because he ‘s throwing great.
“He throws a lot of strikes and he can throw all three pitches for strikes. He’s not really overpowering, but he can mix it up to where he gives people a hard time up there.”
Shortstop Ty Desormeaux put the Patriots on the board in the third with a two-out double to drive in Patin.
In the fourth, the Patriots got things started with a bunt by first baseman Ryan Thompson that drove in Taylor Abshire..
A sacrifice fly by Ryan Meaux brought in Thompson and Desormeaux delivered again with a double to drive in two more runs and put North Vermilion up 6-0.
“We had good at bats the whole game,” Trahan said. Even when we weren’t scoring, we were hitting balls hard. We weren’t really concerned. We just kept executing and in the fourth inning, we laid some good bunts down and blew the inning open.”
Desormeaux went 4-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. Patin, Abshire and Chance Carriere each went 2-3 at the plate.
The Patriots weekend matchups were the final tuneup before they open district play.
“We’re just getting at bats and trying to find a rhythm and getting into a groove by the time we get into district,” said Trahan. “We’ve been playing a little better lately so hopefully we can keep that going.”
The Patriots will be in action Tuesday to open district play against Kaplan.
