Abbeville Police arrest local man wanted in St. Martin

Abbeville Police arrested late Sunday a local man wanted on several charges in St. Martin Parish.
Abbeville Police arrested Tyrus Jamal Porter, 19, of Abbeville around 11:30 p.m. in Abbeville on a warrant issued by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshall’s Office.
Porter initially fled as police attempted to make an arrest. Abbeville Police apprehended Porter shortly after, when an item of his clothing reportedly became stuck on a nearby fence.
Abbeville Police took Porter into custody and turned him over the St. Martin Sheriff’s Office where he was booked with a $150,000 bond
Officials there wanted Porter in connection to a Feb. 17 shooting that occurred on Johnson Road in Cecilia. Officials in St. Martin arrested a 17-year-old Lafayette man last week in connection to the shooting. Daron Carter of Lafayette is charged with six counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property.
Porter faces charges of one count of Attempted Armed Robbery, one count of Aggravated Battery, one count of Attempted Second-Degree Murder/Non-Negligent Manslaughter and one count of Assault By Drive-By Shooting.
