Names released in accident involving woman struck near McDonald’s
Abbeville Police have released the names of the two people involved in a pedestrian-involved accident that occurred last Thursday morning.
Abbeville Police Lt. David Hardy said a truck driven by Montey LeBlanc, 59, of Erath hit Kizzy Darby, 32, of Abbeville as she attempted to cross near the intersection of La. 14 Bypass and North State Street. Darby is an employee of the McDonald’s located near the intersection.
LeBlanc does not currently face any charges and impairment is not suspected.
“At this time it appears to be an accident where she was crossing the street in the early morning hours around dawn with foggy conditions and the driver did not see her,” Hardy said.
The intersection does not have a crosswalk. Hardy said state law says that those crossing at the highway must do so at the intersection.
The accident remains under investigation. Hardy said LeBlanc has cooperated fully with the investigation.
Police responded to a call just before 7 a.m. Thursday that someone had been hit near the 300 block of Veterans Memorial Drive (Bypass). Police and emergency personnel located Darby and had her transported to Abbeville General with what were described as serious injuries. Darby was later transported to another medical facility in Lafayette.
“She went through surgery and I was told there was some improvement,” Hardy said Monday morning. “How much improvement? I am not sure.”
