Abbeville teen will sing on"The Voice"

The National TV show “The Voice” begins Monday on NBC. This season Vermilion Parish has a reason to watch it because a 17-year-old from Abbeville will be performing on the show.
Koryn Hawthorne, a junior at Lighthouse Christian Academy in Abbeville, will be performing on TV in hopes of getting one of four celebrity coaches to turn their chair after hearing Hawthorne sing.
Summer Simon, Hawthorne’s mother, can not let anyone know if Hawthorne was selected by either coach Blake Shelton, coach Christina Aguilera, coach Pharrel Williams or coach Adam Levine.
She said everyone will have to watch the show to see if she is picked by a coach.
Simon got word Friday that Hawthorne will not appear in Monday’s show.
Simon and her daughter flew to Los Angeles to audition in front of the coaches.
The journey to get there began in May when Hawthorne and her mother drove to New Orleans to first audition for the show. Hawthorne, who is no stranger to auditioning, made the first two rounds and then got a call back for another audition. After that she was told she earned a trip to Los Angeles.
Because of contract obligations, Simon or Hawthorne can not inform anyone how the Los Angeles auditions went. Simon was proud of how her daughter handled everything.
“She handled it so well,” said Simon. She was very mature and spiritual.”
She is the daughter of Corey Hawthorne and Summer Simon.
