Miguez wins District 49 State Representative race

Blake Miguez of New Iberia is the new District 49 State Representative.
Miguez won a special election held Saturday in parts of Iberia and Vermilion parishes.
He received more than 93 percent of the votes in Iberia and Vermilion parishes.
In Vermilion Parish, he had 1,228 votes compared to John J. Bering, who had 78 votes. In Iberia Parish he had 1,200-plus votes to just over 100 votes for Bering.
Miguez will be sworn in immediately as the new state representative.
He will fill the remaining term of Simone Champagne, who resigned in December.
Miguez’s term is only for 10 months because that is all that Champagne had left in her term.
He will have to run again in October of 2015 to serve the district for four more years.
