Abbeville police have a busy three days
The Abbeville Police Department had a busy week chasing down burglars, speeders and drug users within a three-day period.
Abbeville Police Chief Tony Hardy thanked his police officers for a job well done.
Monday night
The week began when a person at the Live Oak Manner Apartments saw a man rolling up paper in the laundromat. The person watched the male on video. The person called the Abbeville Police and when they arrived, they located Jonavon Palmer allegedly in possession of marijuana and synthetic marijuana.
The police located 40 small bags of a green vegetation that looked to be marijuana and synthetic marijuana.
The police also located a pistol allegedly in the possession of Jonavon Palmer.
Palmer was arrested by officers and charged with
possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute synthetic drugs and possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous subject.
He was booked into the parish jail.
Tuesday afternoon
Two alleged burglars learned the hard way that people in Abbeville are not afraid to defend their family’s property when someone is trying to steal it.
Tuesday afternoon on John Hardy Drive, a female stopped at her sister’s house and saw it was being burglarized. She and a male subject confronted the alleged burglars outside of the house and then began fighting with two male burglars.
An SUV, which was the get-away car, saw the fight and drove to the front of the house on John Hardy Drive and the alleged burglars stopped fighting and jumped into the SUV.
Well, the female did not give up. She jumped in her vehicle and began following the SUV. The SUV had to make an emergency stop because the hood of the truck flew up, making it tough to drive.
The female called the police while following them.
The police arrived at the stopped SUV and then two male subjects darted from the vehicle. There were also three males left sitting in the SUV when the police arrived.
Eventually the two males who left the SUV were located and arrested by the police about two miles south on John Hardy Drive.
The police also located a flat screen TV in the SUV that had been allegedly stolen from another home that same morning.
Arrested and charged were:
Albert Jackson, Jakell Kelly, Blaine Landry and Michael Murphy were each charged with two counts of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, illegal possession of stolen items, and possession of burglary tools.
Three of the four men are from Lafayette, while another is from New Iberia.
Wednesday night
The Abbeville Police went on a car chase Wednesday night that resulted in the driver who was being chased to be seriously injured.
The police began chasing a Lexus driven by Lawrence Scion. The police recognized the Lexus, because it was wanted as a drug seizure vehicle.
Scion began to leave Abbeville when he drove onto La 338 and headed north.
However, on the first large curve, the Lexus missed the curve and flew off the road and hit a telephone pole.
Scion had to be airlifted to a Lafayette hospital. He was also not wearing a seatbelt.
The Abbeville Police allegedly located marijuana and crack cocaine in his vehicle.
