Notre Dame sweeps Erath in district action

CROWLEY — The Erath Lady Bobcats’ picked a bad time to have another bad day of shooting.
The Lady Bobcats travelled to Crowley to battle the Notre Dame Lady Pios in a district battle. If Erath would have won they would have shared a piece of the title with the Lady Pios.
Unfortunately, the Lady Bobcats lost 46-38 and are now in a two-way tie for second place with North Vermilion. The Lady Pios win the district outright with the win.
Nerves may have played a part in the Lady Bobcats shooting 22 percent (13 out of 59 from the floor).
In the first period, Erath did not score a basket until the 2:32 mark in the first period and was already down 14-2. By the end of the first period, ND led 17-4. In the first period, EHS shot a dismal 2 out of 14.
“We put too much pressure on ourself,” said Erath head coach Andrea Bernard. “We are a young team.”
By halftime, Notre Dame led 27-14.
The third period was not niece to Erath. The only points Erath could score in the third period was at the free throw line, because of cold shooting.
Erath missed 15 consecutive shots in the third period and made its only bucket with five seconds left in the period. The Lady Bobcats were down 34-19.
Shooting improved slightly for Erath in the fourth period.
Gabby Harrington, who scored 11 for EHS, nailed a 3-pointer that began a small rally for EHS with 1:51 to play in the game.
Harrington made another 3-pointer and Monette Bolden made a layup to curt ND’s lead to 10 with 20 seconds remaining.
Time ran out on Erath’s rally.
Notre Dame leading scorer was Madelyn LeJeune and Hanna Esthay, who combined to score 39 out of ND’s points.
Bolden fished with 10 and Olivia Blanchard made 8, including a couple of three pointers for EHS.
Ashlyn Lege added 4.
Erath closes out district at home against Kaplan.

The Erath Bobcats jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first period but could not hold it en route to a 49-39 district loss to Notre Dame on Tuesday.
Jaylen Sinegal led EHS with 14 points. Elijah Mitchell had 10, Bren Faulk made 4. Nick Suire and Tanner Anderson scored each two for EHS.

The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles had an easy time against Highland Baptist on Tuesday, cruising to a 50-7 district win.
The Lady Eagles, who have already claimed the district title, jumped out to 22-3 first period lead.
By halftime, VC led 36-6.
Kelly White led VC in scoring with 10 points.
Other scorers for VC were: Kaylen Collins (8), Olivia Chiasson (5), Lexi Langlinais (5), Caroline David (5), Bella Doucet (4), Leah Camel (4), Kaitlyn Bertrand (2), Allyson Broussard (1) and Zaesia Bernard (1).
Chiasson, Langlinias and David each made a 3-pointer for VC.
