Two Abbeville men arrested after chase
According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit made the following arrests for narcotics related offenses within the parish.
On Tuesday, Feb. 3, Sheriff’s Office Narcotics agents, along with the Abbeville Police Department Detective division, were working narcotics and violent crime patrol within the city limits of Abbeville.
While patrolling, agents noticed a vehicle traveling at an unusually high rate of speed. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle the driver picked up speed in an attempt to elude the agents. Abbeville Police Detectives, along with the patrol division, attempted to intercede but the driver continued on. The driver of the vehicle proceeded to the Wal Mart parking lot hoping to lose officers there. Knowing this was becoming dangerous to the public, agents and officers boxed in the driver while in the lot.
Patrick Davenport (dob 4/14/79) of Abbeville, and the passenger, Derrick Landry (dob 9/30/75) of Abbeville, were both Mirandized and questioned. After crack cocaine, and suspected marijuana was found on scene both Davenport, and Landry were taken to the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division for further investigation. Once arriving, it was found that Landry was in possession of suspected marijuana, and MDMA (Ecstasy).
Davenport was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, transactions involving drug proceeds, and principal to possession with the intent to distribute MDMA.
Landry was subsequently charged with possession with the intent to distribute MDMA, possession of marijuana, principal to possession with the intent to distribute both crack cocaine and marijuana.
