North Vermilion/Abbeville highlight Yuletide action

Less than a month removed from a 33-27 game in the parish tournament, the North Vermilion Lady Patriots and the Abbeville Lady Wildcats squared off in a rematch at the Yuletide Classic Saturday night.
North Vermilion won that game at the Parish tournament, but Abbeville got their revenge Saturday with a 53-46 victory on day two of the Yuletide Classic.
The seven-point margin was the closest of any game on Saturday.
After going into halftime down nine points, Abbeville outscored North Vermilion 36-20 in the second half to advance to the semi finals of the tournament.
Arrayia Starland had a game-high 19 points, and Jasmine Mitchell had 11. Other Abbeville scorers were: Jackie Braxton (10), Timia Briggs (6), Evelyn Briggs (4) and Jada Darby (3).
The leading scorer for North Vermilion was Simone Pillette with 13 points. Other Lady Patriots who scored were: Kaylee Lopez (11), Lunden Graham (6), Morgan Harrington (11) and Lanie Breaux (5).
In other action Saturday, the Gueydan Honeybears defeated Delcambre 44-34 in each team’s first game of the loser’s bracket.
Kylie Crochet’s 16 points led Gueydan in scoring.
Other Honeybear scorers were: Nya Boudreaux (6), Ke’ara Charles (4), Ashari Terry (4), T’nia Leger (6) and Kendra Petry (4).
Taylor Moneaux led the Lady Panthers with 12 points followed by Tori Verret with 11.
The Kaplan Lady Pirates got their first win of the tournament with a 48-18 win over Catholic High of New Iberia.
Kaplan led 29-4 at halftime, and never looked back.
Freshman Rylie Frick scored 16 points for Kaplan.
Other scorers were: Sasha Rudd (2), Caroline Guidry (5), Caroline Touchet (10), Lauren Touchet (2), Kailey Lejune (8), Haile Johnnie (4) and Claudia Timmermans (1).
