Eagles edge Bobcats 47-39 in overtime
The Eagles struggled at times, but were still able to put away Erath 47-39 in overtime Tuesday night in their first action of the season.
Erath trailed by five points at halftime, and seven at the end of the third quarter, to cut the deficit in the fourth quarter.
A 3-pointer by Bren Faulk tied the game late in the fourth quarter, and two free throws by Faulk gave Erath the lead.
VC tied the game up, and a backcourt violation by the Bobcats gave the Eagles a chance to end the game in regulation.
Devren Constantine missed a three at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
In the extra period, Erath’s Elijah Mitchell and Jaylin Sinegal both fouled out, leaving the Bobcats struggling on offense.
Vermilion Catholic took over in overtime, outscoring Erath 10-2 in the period.
Constantine led VC with 18 points, including five in overtime on key layups.
William Noegel finished with 10 for the Eagles, with all of his points coming in the fourth quarter and overtime. Freshman Trevian Lane added 8 points, and Ethan Menard scored 6.
Mitchell poured in 21 for Erath followed by Sinegal with 10 and Faulk with 5.
