Gueydan holds a candlelight vigil to honor GHS senior who died in auto accident
A candlelight vigil was held Sunday night at Gueydan High football stadium in honor of Gueydan senior Kaitlin Venissat, who died Friday night in a car accident.
She was only 17 years old.
She leaves behind her parents Russel and Rhonda Leger Venissat. Kaitlin was a cheerleader, as well as a member of the band at Gueydan High. Kaitlin was also a member of the Beta.
At the vigil, friends, many of the Gueydan student body and as well as strangers stood around the track inside the football stadium.
The senior class, made up of about 23 students, gathered at mid field around a wooden cross made in honor of Kaitlin. Also, a wooden chest was made and classmates and friends went put something special into the chest, which will be oven to Katilin's parents.
Music was played and then the stadium lights went off as the candles burned.
The vigil lasted about an hour but no one left after the music stopped. Everyone went to mid field and stayed talking.
