Merline T. Broussard, Ph.D.
Merline T. Broussard, Ph.D., 78, passed away October 28, 2014, after a brief illness. Dr. Broussard is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Earle J. Broussard and one son, Brian M. Perry and wife Deborah, of Dubuque, Iowa.
Visitation will be held at St Jude Catholic Church on Monday, November 3rd at 9am followed by a funeral mass at 9:30. Interment will follow at 4pm at Sacred Heart Memorial Cemetery, Abbeville, LA.
Dr. Broussard was a native of Abbeville, LA and has lived in Bossier City for the past 9 years. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Brown Scapular Way Carmelites, and the St. Jude Bible Study Group.
Dr. Broussard was a dedicated, active and committed educator throughout her life. During her career she served as a classroom teacher at the secondary and post-secondary levels and retired as director of Administrative Services, Office of Vocational Education for the State Department of Education. She served as President of Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, Vermilion Parish Unit, District V and the State Association. She was also a member of the Bossier Parish Unit and District XI. Dr. Broussard was selected as Louisiana’s Retired Educator of the Year. She served on the LRTA Executive Board and the Office of Group Benefits Planning and Policy Board representing Retired Educators and Retired School Employees.
She was AARP’s District XII Director and a member of the Vermilion Parish Library Board, Abbeville Country Club, American Association of University Women, Alumni of the University of Louisiana Lafayette and Michigan State University where she earned her Ph.D. She was a member of other associations too numerous to mention.
Dr. Broussard was a faithful servant of the Lord and an inspiration to all those who knew and loved her. Her presence in our lives will be greatly missed, and we are honored to have shared in her life.
