Jeanerette man dies in motorcycle accident near Delcambre
A two vehicle crash on LA Highway 14 at Leleux Road (near Delcambre) has claimed the life of a Jeanerette man
Monday night, shortly after 7:00 p.m., Michael Dooley of New Iberia was traveling west on LA 14 in a 2001 Ford F250 truck and turned left into the path of a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling east on LA 14. The driver of the motorcycle, 42 year old Berwick Rhine, Jr of Jeanerette, struck the side of the pick-up truck and was thrown from the motorcycle during the crash. Rhine, Jr. was pronounced dead on scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner's Office. At the time of the crash, Rhine was not wearing a DOT approved helmet. Dooley was properly restrained and was not injured.
Dooley was taken to a local facility for a chemical breath test and the results indicated he was not impaired. It is unknown if Rhine was impaired when the crash occurred. Routine toxicology samples have been obtained and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime lab for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers would like to remind motorist to look out for motorcycles and share the road. Please use caution when making turns off of Louisiana roadways and pulling out of private drives. Make sure the roadway is clear of traffic before entering and exiting the roadway.
