Confused on when is Halloween in Vermilion Parish?

Editorial written by Chris Rosa

If you live in Vermilion Parish, you can celebrate Halloween twice this week.
There is confusion as to when is Halloween, in this parish.
My goal is to try and explain to you when Halloween is, depending on where you live.
Let’s start with Abbeville.
If you live in Abbeville or you want to Trick or Treat in Abbeville, then Halloween is Thursday.
Why?
Next weekend is the Omelette Festival, which takes part in downtown Abbeville.
The Scare on the Square is normally on Halloween night, Oct. 31, in Magdalen Square.
It would have been impossible to have Scare on the Square with Egg Omelette vendors setting up in Magdalen Square on Oct. 31.
The City Council voted to move Halloween to Thursday.
So, let’s get this straight, if you want to Trick Or Treat in Abbeville, do it Thursday night.
Also having Halloween on Thursday night are Kaplan and the Village of Maurice.
Kaplan moved Halloween to Thursday because Kaplan travels to Abbeville for a Friday night football game.
There will be a lot of security at that football game, which is another reason the Abbeville City Council did not want Halloween on Friday. The Abbeville police would have been spread too thin to protect Trick Or Treaters and provide security for the Friday night football game.
I will try to slow it down if you think I am going too fast, and you are confused on when Halloween is
The Village of Maurice aldermen also changed Halloween to Thursday, because North Vermilion has a home game against Notre Dame, and it is Senior Night for the football players and band members.
Refresh time: If you live in the Village of Maurice, Abbeville and Kaplan, Halloween is on a Thursday.
If you live in Erath, Gueydan, and the rural areas, Halloween is on Friday.
The reason Erath did not change Halloween is because the Bobcats play on Thursday night.
If you live in the rural areas of the parish like Meaux, Leroy, Forked Island or Indian Bayou, Halloween is Friday.
It gets more confusing. The subdivision known as Abadie Oaks, north of Abbeville, decided to have Halloween on Thursday despite what the Police Jury voted on last week.
For the last 10 years, this rural subdivision has been the place to Trick Or Treat. It is the place to get top of the line candy.
Quiz time.
Where can I Trick Or Treat on Thursday?
Abbeville, Kaplan, Village of Maurice and Abadie Oaks, located north of Abbeville.
What about Friday?
Erath, Gueydan and the rural areas of the parish, except for Abadie Oaks neighborhood, have Halloween.
I received a phone call from a parent telling me they live in Maurice, near North Vermilion High, so is Halloween on a Friday or Thursday?
I told this parent, North Vermilion High is not considered in the city limits of Maurice. Another lady wanted to know what about the town of Meaux? When is Halloween for Meaux?
Last I checked Meaux is not a town, nor a village, so Halloween is on Friday.
Other parents called upset because Halloween is on Thursday, which is on a school night, instead of Friday. I had no good answer.
I hope I simplified Halloween for you. If you are more confused, just go both nights and get a lot of candy.
