ABBEVILLE — A Home going Celebration will be held for Woodrow Wilson Wright, 101, at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Greater Pleasant Green Baptist Church, 822, IJ Joiner St., Abbeville, LA.
Pastor M. C. Wright will be officiating.
Interment will follow in the church’s Green Street Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM on Thursday at the church while Masonic rites and tributes will begin at 10:00 until time of services.
Woodrow Wilson Wright was born February 6, 1913 to the union of the late Joseph Wright, Jr and Ida Brookshire Wright in Abbeville, LA where has been a lifelong resident.
Woodrow met and married the former Lillie Clifton, whom preceded him in death.
He was also blessed to have three children of which two preceded him in death.
He was a lifelong member of Greater Pleasant Green Baptist Church where he served in several leadership capacities. He owned and operated his own lawn maintenance service for many years even until two weeks prior to his death.
In addition to his wife and parents, Woodrow was preceded in death by two children, Herman Wright and Betty W. Wimbly; and twelve siblings. One of Brother Wright’s desires was to leave this earth in the comforts of his home. Our Lord honored his request on Thursday, October 2, 2014. Brother Woodrow Wright returned to the presence of the God who redeemed him. “Be thou faithful unto death and I will give you a crown of life.”
Brother Wright leaving to celebrate his life and legacy are; one daughter, Jillian Cooper of Abbeville; three grandchildren, Lisa (Patrick) Boudreaux of Lafayette, LA, Libbye Wimbly, Herman Wimbly, and Raphael Wright, all of Abbeville, LA; one brother, Joseph (Viola) Wright, III of Houston, TX; one sister, Irma Simpson of Pacoima, California; nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and the Pleasant Green church family who will truly miss his presence.
