Bears open district play vs. Highland Baptist
The Gueydan Bears start district play looking for their first win, when they travel to New Iberia to face Highland Baptist Christian.
Gueydan, (0-4) was close to ending their 17-game losing streak which dates back to the 2012 season, in a 20-18 home loss versus North Central.
The Bears, powered by their run game, have been much more competitive in the games this season compared to those of recent history.
Gueydan has been a few plays from possibly being 2-2, losing by narrow margins to South Cameron and North Central.
The Bears offense is led by the rushing game, with Malik Criner doing most of the damage for Gueydan. Trevor Breaux and Trevor Ladelle also contribute greatly to the success of Gueydan’s rushing attack.
Highland Baptist enters the game with a 2-2 record, after losing a shootout with Central Catholic of Morgan City last Friday 63-59.
Highland Baptist has shown signs of a prolific offense thus far. The offense is averaging 40 points per game, and is propelled by their rushing attack led by senior Gary Roberts.
Both teams look to get a win in district, to gain confidence heading into the rest of their tough district schedule.
