George was born February 22, 1926 in New Iberia to the late Feliz Deslatte and Clarise Broussard Deslatte, and was one of twelve children. He passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at his residence with his family at his side.
Mr. Deslatte was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was retired from International Salt (now Akzo Noble) with many years of loyal service. He and his wife, Lona Faye, loved to travel and visited many states including Hawaii and throughout the Caribbean. In the past, he enjoyed fishing and trolling on his boat. But most recently his pastimes were playing cards with the family and friends and going to the casino. He was a devoted husband, loving uncle and friend and will be missed dearly.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lona Faye Landry Deslatte of New Iberia; a brother and sister, Louis Deslatte and Marie Blanchard of Texas; his God-children and caregivers, Vickie Nunez of Erath and Tony Landry and wife Lydia of Youngsville; a sister-in-law, Margerine Nunez and husband RJ of Erath; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawless, Edwin, Luke, Felix, Jr., Lee and Claude Deslatte; and his sisters, Philomene LeBlanc (whom raised him as a child), Leila Hebert, Valerie Guillot and Marie Blanchard.
Pallbearers will be Tony Landry, Scotty Nunez, Nick LeBlanc, Carson Nunez, Hank Little, and Rob Ballantyne. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Nunez, Robert LeBlanc, Dave Landry, Randy Blanchard, and Ronald Hebert.
