St. Peter Catholic Shool donates books to Faith House
GUEYDAN - The St. Peter Catholic School has recently donated more than 300 books to the women and children of Faith House for their media center.
It started out as just weeding out a few old books, says, Mrs. Kae Broussard-Ockwell, the in house librarian at SPS, but it grew into more than just a small project.
Mrs. Kae knew exactly what to do with the boxes and boxes of books. She decided to donate them to Faith House of Acadiana, a private, non-profit program for survivors of domestic violence and their children. “Helping others is very dear to the hearts of the students and faculty at SPS and what a better way to give than through books,” comment Mrs. Kae.
Faith House’s program consists of: a shelter, a non-residential program, a transitional housing program, a permanent supportive housing program, an outreach program, a 24-hour crisis line and a public education program. The 45-bed facility accepts victims of domestic violence and their minor children.
