Cars with children heading to LeBlanc Elementary hit each other

A two-vehicle accident, involving children heading to LeBlanc Elementary, happened Friday morning at the intersection of La. 338 and North Airport Road, north of Abbeville.
According to State Police, a female, driving a Nissan Altima, was heading north on North Airport Road and she approached the intersection and went to turn right onto La. 338, to head to LeBlanc Elementary. A person, driving a Honda Pilot, heading east on La. 338, slammed into the driver's side door of the Nissan. The names of the people driving the vehicles were not released.
The female driving the Nissan was airlifted by Acadian Ambulance to a hospital. The driver had moderate injuries. There were two children, ages 2 and 5, in the Nissan, who were not seat belted in.
There were also two children, ages 6 and 8, who were not wearing their seat belt in in the Pilot, but the driver was.
The drivers of both vehicles were cited twice for no child restraint. The driver of the Nissan was cited for failure to yield.
There were brought to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance.
