North Vermilion head football coach worries about moisture in the air
Vermilion Parish football fields have been getting soaked because of afternoon showers. One parish football head coach is beginning to get nervous because of the moisture.
North Vermilion High School is hosting this Friday’s Vermilion Parish Football Jamboree.
Wednesday morning he walked on his football field and said the ground was not too wet. But if more rain falls over the next two days, then six teams may be playing on a wet field.
“If we get no rain on the field today (Wednesday) we will be in good shape,” said Prejean at the Abbeville Rotary Club meeting.
There is a 50 percent chance of rain on Friday.
On Friday, six teams will be playing in the Vermilion Parish Jamboree.
The Gueydan Bears battle the South Plaquemine at 5 p.m. South Plaquemine is coached by former VC head coach Cedric Figaro.
Abbeville and Erath will play next at 6:30 p.m. The final game is at 8 p.m. when North Vermilion entertains Kaplan.
Tickets are on sale for $7. They can be purchased at each school and at the gate.
Prejean and four other parish coaches attended the Rotary Club meeting.
Prejean said the recent rains have made it tough for him to practice near the school. Because of the construction of the middle school and all the rain, North Vermilion is practicing far behind the school. Prejean said the school uses a golf cart to carry equipment back and forth to where they are practicing.
Other coaches at Rotary were Abbeville head coach Chris Towery, VC head coach Russell Kuhns, Kaplan head coach Stephen Lotief and Erath head coach David Comeaux.
Coach Comeaux said his team has a few players injured and will sit out the jamboree.
Abbeville’s Coach Towery is seeing positive signs early from his team, and he expects his club to win games in 2014.
“Our attitude has changed from a year ago,” said Towery.
Kaplan head coach Stephen Lotief was asked about Kaplan’s Division I recruit Jalen Bates. Lotief spoke highly of his 6-foot-5 defensive end Bates.
